WELCOME TO QUARTER 2!!!!! A Golden Compass What’s Around Us?! The Regions of the United States of America! There was a wild flurry of activities this super-short week! We got new table teams, celebrated two birthdays, and started learning about the land and resources that make up our country. 2nd/3rd: Week of Oct 16

Math This week, Ms. Andrea’s math group dove into Unit 3! We’re going to focus on addition and subtraction through the end of the year, highlighting and practicing strategies as we go! This week we practiced “making a ten.” By the end of the week, we were attempting this feat using mental math. Ms. Kelly’s math group reviewed and practiced adding two 3 digit numbers on a number line as well as using the standard algorithm. We added a Math Power Journal this week to squeeze in just a little more challenge for those few extra minutes we have left

4th/5th: Week of Oct 16

Reading/Writing Update This week we got busy with researching for our biography writing projects! Gammas chose their topic (person) and were provided with printed information about them to peruse and highlight. Some Gammas realized that people they were interested in are very private (the creator of Fortnite) and therefore might not make for a compelling essay. Other Gammas realized that sports figures in particular have a lot of tedious information about their sports careers to wade through. All in all, this has been a great lesson in how to digest information and think about the reader you are writing for!

Middle School: Week of Oct 16

Math: Da Sprouts started their new unit over integer operations. Tuesday they learned how to add integers using counters and a number line. Wednesday they did the same thing but subtraction. Thursday they made necklaces that represented integer addition problems where their answer was their age! EverShrooms were introduced to inequalities on Tuesday and extended to solving two step inequalities on Wednesday. On Thursday they continued practicing solving inequalities with a solve and color.
