2nd/3rd: Week of Oct 30

Math This week, Ms. Andrea’s math group looked at relationships between numbers within a number family. We played with the part/part/whole model and created several addition and subtraction number sentences. We also solved for missing addends and practiced finding differences using number lines. This week we worked a lot with story problems, aka word problems. General News We had so much fun on Halloween it was downright spooky. 😁Kids participated in an “Escape the Zombie Apocalypse” math activity and a “Show Not Tell” scary story writing activity in language arts. In the afternoon, we conducted a “Dissolving Candy Corns” lab and a “Build Your Own Catapult” for candy pumpkins. The Gammas did an excellent job throughout the entire crazy day! Middle School: Week of Oct 30

Math: This week Da Sprouts added and subtracted integers using the algorithm, then they switched gears to multiplying and dividing integers. They practiced multiplying and dividing integers using both models and with algorithms. The EverShrooms practiced application inequality problems on Monday. On Tuesday everyone was finally back in class just in time to take a check-in. Even with absences, everyone did a great job! Wednesday and Thursday EverShrooms started their new proportions unit by learning how to cross multiply. Polar Bears practiced writing linear equations, completing tables for linear equations, graphing linear equations, and giving verbal descriptions of linear equations

Math This week, Ms. Andrea’s math group dove into the “meat and potatoes” of 2nd grade math – addition and subtraction! We reviewed addition strategies and practiced several subtraction strategies. We spent the most time with Make a 10 since our place value knowledge base makes it a very friendly number for our brains to work with. We also discussed equations and the meaning of the equals sign. We practiced balancing both sides of an equation. We closed out the week solving lots of word problems. We practiced reading them, identifying known & unknown parts, plus building and solving number
