Middle School: Week of May 8th

Math: Zoomshrooms finished up their geometry unit this week. Monday they had a lesson over finding the volume of rectangular prisms. On Tuesday they extended their graphing skills to a coordinate plane with 4 quadrants. Wednesday was a review day with a scavenger hunt. Then finally, Thursday was their check in. Shockwave students worked through things at their own pace this week. Students first had to finish their dot plot or box plot on the wall. Next, they completed a check in over their statistics unit. Then finally, they started budgeting for a dream vacation. Vacation planning will continue till […]

Middle School: Week of Feb 27

Math Monday Zoomshrooms studied mathematical properties they have been using since they were young: commutative, associative, identity, and inverse. They then learned a new property called the distributive property. Tuesday they practiced using the distributive property with a puzzle. Freddie said “I really liked the puzzle and want more of that style”. Once everyone completed the puzzle the class played Competing Integers. The class split into two teams and sent pairs up to compete against each other. The competitors were read an integer operation problem and had to write the problem on the whiteboard, solve it, then box the answer.

Middle School: Week of Jan 23

Math Monday, Zoomshrooms had a lesson on converting fractions, decimals, and percents. Tuesday and Wednesday they practiced those skills independently with a solve and color, a matching worksheet, and a modified Go-Fish game. They were diligent workers Tuesday and Wednesday which allowed me to give our Gamma shadow students their own lessons on percents. Thursday we had a lesson on bonds and asset allocation. They spent time researching bonds and when and why they should invest in them. Shockwave students started the week by recalling formulas. As a class we wrote the area formulas for squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and

Middle School: Week of Jan 9

Math Zoomshrooms started the week with Stock Market Game time. We then moved on to complete a performance task about purchasing supplies for a lemonade stand. This allowed each pair to practice everything they learned in their ratio unit. Wednesday we finished the last lesson in our unit, measurement conversions. Thursday they played Find Someone Who to practice measurement conversions. Each student had to find someone who could complete a problem on their worksheet. Shockwave students spent Monday working on the Stock Market Game. One Shockwave group is currently in first place in the region! Tuesday they started their Geometry

Math This week during math, Zoomshrooms worked on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. They also had a lesson on what exactly a stock is and how to read a stock quote. One Zoomshroom team is in second place in the stock market game in their region! Shockwave worked on simplifying expressions, solving one-step equations, and solving two-step equations. Most Shockwave students have the number sense to look at an equation and know the answer. We worked really hard on solving these equations using inverse operations and writing each step down. Next year, Shockwave students will be solving multi-step equations
