Middle School: Week of 9/16

Math: This week the Marionettes worked on fraction operations. They found common denominators in order to add and subtract fractions. Next they practiced their cross canceling in order to multiply fractions. Finally, they copy, change, and flipped in order to divide fractions. The Saplings worked on simplifying expressions along with solving one-and two-step equations. On Thursday, some students continued practicing solving two-step equations with games of battleship. Other students worked on an extension assignment to solve multi-step equations involving the distributive property. Middle School: Week of 9/9

Math: Marionettes completed their first check-in on Monday and then continued onto their next unit: Positive Rational Numbers! They completed 4 lessons in two days over adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. Wednesday was a particularly impressive day. All Marionettes worked diligently on long dividing decimals. I was so proud they earned Division Champ badges! On Thursday, they made a graphic organizer to remember the different rules for each operation and started an error analysis. They will finish finding the mistakes in pretend student work next week. Math: The Marionettes started the week with a cut and paste activity to help practice the difference between opposites and an absolute value. That was their final topic for this unit, so they moved onto a review packet and then a final project. This just in!! This week each class strengthened its community by collaborating to choose their official name for the year. Drumroll please! The 6th graders are the Marionettes; the 7th graders are the Saplings; and the 8th graders are Vroomshroom. Math: 6th graders continued practicing ordering rational numbers Monday by working in groups to line up numbers least to greatest. Middle School: Week of 8/19

Math: What a great first week back! All students decorated their binders on the first day of school and reviewed procedures for class. This included how students will work their way through the Math Super Sleuth Academy whenever they finish their daily assignment early. On Tuesday, 6th grade students learned how to graph integers on a number line and practiced comparing integers by playing Integer War.
