3rd/4th: Week of Sept 15

This week we set sail on our Viking longships! Our Gammas are in full swing now and doing an amazing job. We feel like we are really getting to know them, and we are proud of how responsible they are with assignments keeping our classroom clean and organized. 2nd: Week of Sept 15

The Betas had a very full week! In math we began a new unit focusing on Place Value. We reviewed the importance of the placement of digits within a number and how it affects their value. These kids already know so much! When we finish our work early, we learn a new game to play to help reinforce skills. This week we used base ten blocks often to build numbers, so that the Betas have a good, concrete understanding of the quantities that various numbers represent. “What’s Inside Me” this week?… MY CIRCULATORY SYSTEM! This week, Alphas knew that when they get a scrape or cut, blood comes out – and it’s red, and dries up, and new skin forms under the scab. We learned that blood is made up of a lot of things, like… …Water! Blood is mostly made out of water… …and plasma that’s full of nutrients… …and platelets that mend our skin when we get scrapes and cuts… …and white blood cells to hunt down germs and bacteria… …and red blood cells that carry oxygen!!! 3rd/4th: Week of Sept 8

What a week of exploration and fun we have had in the Gamma room! Our week included the perfect combination of working individually and with others to reach our learning goals. Our Gamma community is really coming together! Math We reviewed rounding and place value with an “Amazing Math Race.” Then we applied our rounding skills to estimating answers to real life math problems. ELA We learned about cause and effect relationships and applied them in reading about the very first vikings. Our book clubs are going strong and the students seem to be enjoying their novels. 2nd: Week of Sept 8

The Betas keep chugging along! In math, we wrapped up our first unit on Number Sense and did an amazing job on the unit test! We had a well-deserved game day in between. Next up on the math agenda: Place Value! We’re starting off the year by focusing on fundamental concepts to set us up for future success. In phonics this week we reviewed beginning blends (gr, dr, br, tr, cr, pr, fr), 3 letter blends (scr, spl, str, spr, squ), and diagraph blends (shr, thr) We played Tic Tac Toe (5 in a row) by reading words with blends
