2nd: Week of Feb 9

Math The Beta’s first week of geometry flew by! We reviewed 2D shapes by looking at many street signs. Next, we sorted shapes several ways, based on their attributes. We used our pattern blocks to create bigger shapes out of shapes and some really neat designs. Next week we’ll investigate each 3D solid shape and hunt for them in our environment. ELA In phonics this week we finished our studied prefixes: re (to do again), un (not), mis (to do incorrectly), dis (not or none) and pre (to do before). Our sight words were: across, again, another, animal, after and […]

So many exciting things happened in our class this week.  It was nice to have a full week of school with our sweet Gammas.  We have been enjoying the nice weather at recess and are looking forward to a fun Friendship Day celebration next week.   Math  Gamma 1’s wrapped up our study of fractions.  We did a fun activity dividing paper cookies that showed us how fractions relate to division.   They really seemed to get it and did well on the fraction check-in.    Gamma 2’s reviewed all things decimal with a  Starbucks menu assignment and knocked the

This Week in Alpha (Photo credit: Kristin Vrana, Ezra’s Mama!) Water, water, everywhere… Alphas continued their journey into the deep by admiring an incredible quality that many Twilight Zone creatures have: bioluminescence! We oohed and ahhed at their pulsating and flashing lights that they use to defend, mate, camouflage, and capture prey. Then, we used neon paints to create our own jelly fish, salps, vampire squid, ghost fish, and siphonophores, to name a few. Then we took an even deeper dive into the Aphotic Zone! We did a demonstration with salt water and flashlights to see for ourselves how light

3rd/4th: Week of Jan 26

Wow! What a crazy week!  We missed our Gammas during the winter storm and were so happy to see them on Wednesday.  Even though we had a two day school week, we were able to accomplish quite a bit. Math          Gamma 1’s reviewed how to compare fractions with different denominators and took a closer look at finding and creating equivalent fractions.  Gamma 2’s reviewed adding and subtracting decimals and applied the skills to a real life situation – shopping at a toy store. We also have begun estimating/rounding with decimals and will continue this next week. ELA      We
