2nd/3rd: Week of May 8th

Math – Ms. Kelly’s math group had one busy week! They worked on their last new concept of the year, picture graphs! They discussed what a picture graph is, how they show data, why “keys” are important and then spent time analyzing and creating their very own! These Betas absolutely worked their little tails off on their data and graphing post assessments AND their end of year assessments which covered everything that they learned this year! We are SOOOO PROUD!! Stellar work, mathematicians! Ms. Skylar’s math group focused all of their energy on area and perimeter this week! They kicked […]

Math Ms. Kelly’s math group stayed extra busy this week investigating the number of faces, edges and vertices on different shapes.  They reviewed plane and solid shapes to keep things fresh! These Betas LOVE playing games against the teacher so this week they played a version that required them to get 5 in a row by matching the number of faces with the solid shape…Students won!!🏆 Since these kiddos were in a competitive mood they also played “Beanstick Challenge”. They were given a sum and needed to figure out what bean sticks were needed to make that sum – sounds

Math Math looked a little different this week as we didn’t have Ms. Skylar on Monday or Tuesday and several kiddos were also out – so we combined math groups! Second year Betas played multiplication fluency games while the first years had lessons on elapsed time. As a whole group they needed to come up with a creative word problem for the answer of 94 cows, and these math wizzes didn’t disappoint! Upon Ms. Skylar’s return her group focused on partial products and were introduced to the standard algorithm for two digit by one digit multiplication and they grasped that

Math What a week! Ms. Kelly’s math group had a math-tastic time learning about and playing games related to place value. These Betas used hundreds charts to order three and four digit numbers from least to greatest. It sure is fun to play games against your teacher – this time Ms. Kelly won! These mathletes closed out their week with subtraction word problems in the hundreds using base ten blocks and they even balanced numbers with bears – how cool is that?! Ms. Skylar’s math group focused on reviewing everything that they covered in unit 1, in preparation for their
