2nd/3rd: Week of Mar 25

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math group reviewed geometry vocabulary, 3D shape attributes and played with fractions! We wrapped up our geometry unit by learning about perimeter. We also took our Unit 6 test and our Unit 7 pre-assessment. SO excited to move on to money! Ms. Kelly’s math group jumped right back into our multi step word problem warm up before delving into using the distributive property to find the area of a rectangle. The distributive property states that you can break apart a factor into addends and multiply each addend by the other factor to get a product. So, […]

2nd/3rd: Week of Mar 4

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math group talked about fractions & how we can divide plane shapes equally. We’re getting great at writing them, remembering that the bigger number always goes on the bottom. Ms. Kelly’s math group dove into the concept of area. We learned that area is the amount of space within a 2D shape. It is measured in square units, such as cm², m², etc. We practiced finding the area of a rectangle two ways- by tiling and by multiplying the length and the width. We also brought out the tiles to create some area models before jumping

2nd/3rd: Week of Feb 26

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math group practiced sorting congruent and similar shapes. Then we dove into solid shapes and examined faces, vertices and edges. We also did a 3D shape mix and mingle to form groups and practiced counting solid shape attributes. The kids learned how to play 5 In A Row and it’s all about STRATEGY! And a little luck. We closed the week by finishing up some geometry work and practicing identifying 2D and 3D shapes. Ms. Kelly’s math group began a new unit on area and perimeter. This week is all about reviewing some basic geometry- What

2nd/3rd: Week of Feb 19

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math group delved deep into geometry by looking at 2D & 3D shapes, noting attributes, and asking some key questions (what makes a rhombus different than a square?) We also updated our math journals with key vocabulary for the unit. We reviewed polygons and quadrilaterals and whizzed through several sorts! We learned new geometry games and enjoyed a couple of game days. Some chose to use this time reviewing math facts! Ms. Kelly is so proud of her math group! Word problems are the HARDEST! Everyday we practice. And practicing everyday is not easy! But it’s

2nd/3rd: Week of Feb 12th

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math group wrapped up measurement, reviewed telling time and took their unit test. Now we will begin geometry! Ms. Kelly’s math group will be wrapping up their division unit next week and are squeezing in just a bit more practice. It has been division work, multi-step word problem and multiplication fluency practice extravaganza all week! Literacy – In reading, book clubs continue to run smoothly- one group just began a new one- Bunnicula! Lots of word work is always happening, including contractions and syllabication this week, using our low tech “computers” to make words. We are
