2nd/3rd: Week of Aug 28

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math crew “tallied the room” – including the number of buttons, fingers, and creepy crawlies, examined sequences of numbers to find their pattern and predict the next number in the sequence (skip counting by 2’s, 5’s & 10’s) and played a new game with a called 100 Frame Fill Up where they raced each other to reach 100 (exactly!), skip counting all the way there. Ms. Kelly’s math group is building their place value skills to the 100 thousands by playing partner games, practicing how to convert a number and write it with a different place […]

2nd/3rd: Week of Aug 21

Math – Ms. Andrea’s math crew reviewed some number sense concepts this week, focusing on odd and even numbers, finding patterns on the hundreds chart and filling in missing numbers on a number line. Ms. Kelly’s math group is working so hard and are becoming masters of place value with really BIG numbers- to the 100 thousands place- using base 10, expanded and word forms. Literacy – The kids participate in many engaging activities on a daily basis, besides just reading, during Reading Workshop. For instance, we explicitly teach the kids the rules of the English language in order for

Math – Ms. Kelly’s math group had one busy week! They worked on their last new concept of the year, picture graphs! They discussed what a picture graph is, how they show data, why “keys” are important and then spent time analyzing and creating their very own! These Betas absolutely worked their little tails off on their data and graphing post assessments AND their end of year assessments which covered everything that they learned this year! We are SOOOO PROUD!! Stellar work, mathematicians! Ms. Skylar’s math group focused all of their energy on area and perimeter this week! They kicked

Math Ms. Kelly’s math group stayed extra busy this week investigating the number of faces, edges and vertices on different shapes.  They reviewed plane and solid shapes to keep things fresh! These Betas LOVE playing games against the teacher so this week they played a version that required them to get 5 in a row by matching the number of faces with the solid shape…Students won!!🏆 Since these kiddos were in a competitive mood they also played “Beanstick Challenge”. They were given a sum and needed to figure out what bean sticks were needed to make that sum – sounds

Math Math looked a little different this week as we didn’t have Ms. Skylar on Monday or Tuesday and several kiddos were also out – so we combined math groups! Second year Betas played multiplication fluency games while the first years had lessons on elapsed time. As a whole group they needed to come up with a creative word problem for the answer of 94 cows, and these math wizzes didn’t disappoint! Upon Ms. Skylar’s return her group focused on partial products and were introduced to the standard algorithm for two digit by one digit multiplication and they grasped that
