Math –
This week was chock-full of practicing math facts and playing math games, with a sprinkling of logic puzzles. The first year Betas learned to use a number line to help them subtract and reviewed subtraction strategies. The second year Betas did a great job of working together and supporting one another.
Reading –
Our book clubs are making progress, and not just in terms of page numbers! Groups are learning what it means to read together (much patience is built here), and to respectfully disagree with each other when discussing content. Book club really is a foundational piece of the Beta community.
Writing –
The Betas are delving deeper into poetry! This week we began writing poetry together as a class and also independently. We studied two forms of poetry: haiku and acrostic. The Betas are writing up a storm and are super enthusiastic to express themselves in this artistic format!!
Theme –
This week was all about building and furnishing our settlement peep houses! They are basic, one room structures filled with beds, chests (brought over on the voyage), stools, a table and maybe a chair. We worked on creating fireplaces, clay pots, aprons and bonnets for our colonial peeps. At the end of the week we began to forge weaponry, including cannons and cannonballs. Our settlement is now firmly established.
